First Ryan and I mounted the tubing bender to the loft. (Notice we also bent the bender....)
I have hated the way the back of my CL looks for a long time. This isn't perfect(or even really straight) but it looks and feels way better (and the welding won't break.....hopefully) I also cleaned up the hardtail and brought it home to mock up the tank, fender, etc. before I go up next (weekend?) And of course I got to spend time with the noise maker. Clicking, clacking, lipspitting....you name it she does it.
The welding is done. It took a few hours to figure out what was going on and how I would fit everything where. This may have been a horrible idea... or it may turn out to be what I do to these bikes. It doesn't really matter since it was fun to build.
Had to rebuild the triple tree to figure out where I wanted the hardtail the bike. I am glad I did this. Wasn't as bad as I had expected. The next time will be even quicker.
I used 1 inch DOM tubing and the clevis of the original shock here. This might not look as cool as some other options but it will allow me to drop the wheel done when I want to work on the bike. This is the part of the frame that swings up to connect to end of the bike, which was cut off last week. I used some air tool my brother showed me to grind this out to the shape of the tubing. This is what the bike looked like pre-weld and pre-bend on the tubes. Ryan got the oxyacy torch out and we bent the tubing.
This is what I am working with now. Next weekend I will clean up the welds and bring it frame back home to finish here. As long as my parts keep selling on ebay, I should be done with this by the end of February......the biggest decision now is what tank to put on it.... cl72?
tell stories sometimes. Found about 8 old boxes with cd cases and pictures that I had forgotten about this weekend. Lost memories found.
Does anyone else think the best skate shoes were made 10 years ago? The emerica JT's and the Creager es's were amazing....and I had about 8 pairs of the original low side wall, minimal padding heretics.....my favorite shoes.. I remember searching for the old leftover gross colors when I lived in Japan. I think I bought all white ones and painted them red then black so as they wear down they look like they are bleeding....
I probably shouldn't be trying to build 2 bikes at the same time but it's winter and we still have a long way till the weather gives us anything decent to work with for skating or bikes so what else am I supposed to do?
I have two 350 twin projects. I stripped down 2 cb350's and as I sell the parts on ebay, I buy what I want for my rebuilds. I just got the this tank in the mail. In my opinion, this is probably the best looking tank to come out of the 70's. I found one from a shop that was shutting its doors in Canada and the buy it now price was insane for what arrived at my door today. I think that this bike will be built around the color of this tank.
I need a cl72 tank for my other project. Anybody? Ebay has one for 2,500 right now. No joke.
Does anyone that reads this want to have a bike night soon? I will donate my house. Lets sew seats and rebuild engines!
